The World Series of Poker announced this Thursday that Todd Brunson
-son of the legendary Doyle Brunson
– and Carlos Mortensen
became the newest members of the Poker Hall of Fame. They will join Daniel Negreanu
, David Reese
, Phil Hellmuth
and Stu Ungar
in this exclusive club.
- A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition
- Be a minimum of 40 years old at time of nomination
- Played for high stakes
- Played consistently well, gaining the respect of peers
- Stood the test of time
Todd has over 4.3 million dollars in winnings and 52 WSOP cashes incluiding one golden bracelet. He is known for playing high-stakes games. In 2005 he won over 13.5 million dollars playing heads-up against Andy Beal
.
Mortensen won the 2001 WSOP Main Event and the WPT Main Event. His combined tournament winnings are over 12 million dollars. He was born in Ecuador but move to Spain as a youngster, the country he has always represented while playing poker. He is now the first European to become a member of the Poker Hall of Fame and also the first Latin player.
